MISSION AND GOALS

The Coalition of LGBTQ+ Youth Groups is a place for consultation between organizations that provide services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and queer youth. Its mission is to raise awareness about the issues these young people face, to create environments that support their happiness and to defend their rights.

THE COALITION’S WORK IS DIVIDED INTO THREE MAIN PARTS:

Awareness raising and advocacy for LGBTQ+ youth rights
Main goals :
- Providing and training youth workers in relation to sexual orientation, gender expression and identity, as well as LGBTQ-phobias;
- Informing the population about issues affecting LGBTQ+ youth;
- Making LGBTQ+ organizations aware of the specific realities that youth are facing;
- Sharing and spreading the expertise of member groups to contribute to the development of knowledge;
- Defending the rights of LGBTQ + youth.

Consultation and bonding
Main goals :
- Sharing the strengths and expertise of each member group for a better cohesion of youth actions against LGBTQ-phobias;
- Taking action to highlight issues related to the needs of member groups.

Member Services
Main goals :
- Supporting and accompanying the member groups in carrying out their mission;
- Promoting the creation and maintenance of specific and safer places for youth groups.

PRIORITY STRATEGIC GOALS 2017-2020

General and transversal priorities

Integrating an intersectional and anti-oppression approach into all of the Coalition's practices;
Increasing visibility and promoting the Coalition.

Awareness / Advocacy

Working to improve the living situation of LGBTQIA2S youth who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.

Consultation and liaison

Actively contributing to actions addressing the lack of infrastructure for LGBTQ+ community groups.

Member Services

Continuing to support L’Asterisk and contributing to its development by taking into account the recommendations of the project evaluation as well as the particular leadership role of the Coalition.

Management / community life

Consolidating the funding and structuring process of the Coalition.
